Lakewood Police have arrested the son of a Lakewood woman for her murder after taking  him into custody at gun point when he was spotted driving his mother's car in Howell.

Brian Cassidy, 41 of Lakewood is charged with First Degree Murder; three counts of Third Degree Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose, and Third Degree Theft of a Vehicle in the death of 61-year-old Gail Conway. He is being held on $1 million bail at the Ocean County Jail and will appear in court on Wednesday afternoon.

Prosecutor's office Spokesman Al Della Fave says Cassidy was spotted with his mother's gray Honda Civic in Howell Township in the area of 2740 Lakewood/Allenwood Road at around 5:30 p.m.

Gail's car was spotted near Deerwood Park in Howell where Police units were called to the scene to wait for the suspect to return to the vehicle. Multiple officers reportedly swarmed the area and ordered the suspect to the ground at gunpoint. He was led away in handcuffs.

Della Fave says Lakewood Police were called to the 61-year-old victims Sumac Court home after police were alerted by co-workers at a nearby CVS when she failed to report to work Tuesday morning. "They stated that she was absolutely religious in her attendance at work, according to Della Fave" He says the Lakewood Police Department went to her residence and found her deceased and her vehicle missing."

He says the condition of her body led to a homicide investigation.

According to the Lakewood Scoop, the murder victim resided in her home with her son who was not at home when Police arrived.

Detectives are questioning the man who was taken into custody at the Lakewood Police Department and confirm that a dog found with the man belongs to him. An autopsy is being conducted by the Ocean County Medical Examiners Office.
