Surveillance image, sharp-eyed cop combine in Stafford shoplifting arrest
A pair from southern Ocean County, suspected of shoplifting Fitbit bracelets from the Stafford Township Target on January 10, are also accused of returning two days later for more goods.
Alan Hill, 28, of Forked River, and MaryAnn Garcia, 36, of Manahawkin, were apprehended January 12 in the Target parking lot, according to Stafford Township police.
A patrolman following up the initial investigation recognized Hill from surveillance images, police said. Authorities allege that in the encounter, Hill was found with hidden items just taken from the store, and goods that were reported as stolen on January 10.
Stafford police credited Facebook followers, saying that their response to the posted surveillance images helped them establish positive identification.
Hill was sent to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River on two third-degree counts of shoplifting. Garcia was released to await court hearings on a third-degree charge of receiving stolen property.
