Surprise package: 50 pounds of weed by mail, say Hazlet police

Whoever sent 50 pounds of marijuana to a home in Hazlet - and whoever expected it - will have some explaining to do, to the startled recipient, and to police.

On Tuesday, officers were summoned to a dwelling where the unopened package was delivered, according to the Hazlet PD Facebook page. The recipient told them that it wasn't expected, and that the addressee didn't live there.

Attempting to determine the correct address, the officers opened the package to look for a packing slip, and found the much more interesting cargo.

Authorities are not releasing details about the location or the recipient. But they invite anyone intending to claim the mailing to stop by headquarters.

Meanwhile, they're looking for the owner, along with Monmouth County, New Jersey State Police and federal agents.
