Super Snow Tuesday

A little of this and a little of that on a chilly Tuesday morning with snow on the way:

If you need something to make you think of summertime then you might want to join the Brick Township Chamber of Commerce on Thursday night when they go “Down the Shore” at the Crystal Point Yacht Club.  The Chamber has turned their annual installation of officers and Board of Directors event into one featuring shore casual attire, boardwalk food and games and more to make January feel like July.

The evening will also feature the honoring of three distinguished Jersey Shore Champions for their continued support and help for those dealing with the ravages of Superstorm Sandy.  I will have the pleasure of making presentations on behalf of the Chamber to Christie Winters and the Visitation Relief Center, the architectural firm of Barlo & Associates and an organization we are familiar with…Hometown Heroes.

For information on Thursday night’s event call the Brick Chamber at (732) 477-4949. I have to call myself today and find out if shorts are an option.

There is no doubt that many who live in New Jersey do so with an inferiority complex.  We’re surrounded by New York and Philadelphia, have been the source of constant jokes from late night TV hosts, have to fight off the stigma of shows like “Jersey Shore” and “The Sopranos” and much more.

The latest has to do with our role as hosts of Super Bowl 48 which should be something to celebrate…at least that’s what we’ve been told.  However many in the Garden State are miffed by the fact that most in the media are writing and talking about the game as if it’s being played in New York City.  We of course know that MetLife Stadium is in East Rutherford and that town is in New Jersey but you can be sure between now and February 2nd many on ESPN and elsewhere will trumpet New York as the Super Bowl site.  We’ll just have to get over it.

Highly-regarded Southern Regional football standout Mike Gesicki has made it almost official.  After much speculation he tweeted Monday, “I’m stayin at Penn State, no question where I’ll be in June.”  New Nittany Lions coach James Franklin visited Gesicki and his family on Saturday and the three-sport athlete liked what he heard.  Mike’s commitment does not become official until his signs his national letter of intent on February 5th.
