Firefighters are battling an early morning blaze at 236 Washington Street in downtown Toms River, a building that includes Childers, Southeby's International Realty, Oliver & Co, and Hometown Heroes.

Police initially said the fire was at 224 Washington Street, in a building that houses a dentist office.

Washington Street is closed between Hooper and Hadley Avenues, according to Toms River Police. The road is expected to remain shut down until 10 a.m. Motorists can follow posted detours.

Hometown Heroes, a nonprofit organization, relocated to 236 Washington Street, after a May 2014 fire in downtown Toms River in its former building at the corner of Washington and Robbins Streets. The cause of this morning's fire is under investigation. There are no reported injuries. Crews from New Jersey Natural Gas and Suez water company in Toms River also are at the scene along with police and firefighters.
