More than 400 agricultural leaders and officials are expected to attend the annual State agriculture convention, beginning today in Atlantic City. And this year, the convention coincides with the Vegetable Growers Association dinner, which will be held this evening, giving farmers and those involved in Jersey agriculture added help in the industry. New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Doug Fisher says, “as with any show, you are most generally going to walk away with one or two great ideas that will help you in your farming operation. So we know it is going to be a great convention.”

Items on the two-day convention’s agenda include using social media to market a agribusiness, and farmland preservation and the right to farm..always hot topics in the agriculture community. Also on the agenda, Succession planning for farmers and a delegates’ dinner this evening.

On Thursday, farmers in attendance will also hear about crop insurance and risk management from the USDA.

The convention is being held at Atlantic City’s Trump Taj Mahal Casino Hotel.
