Starland Ballroom Temporarily Closes Due To Sandy Damage

The Starland Ballroom will temporarily close to repair in order to repair damage caused by Superstorm Sandy.

The famed 2500 seat Sayreville concert venue had moved several upcoming concerts in recent days due to damage and has decided to take the time to make full repairs in anticipation of its 10th anniversary next year.

"Hurricane Sandy devastated our electrical system and damaged our sound, lighting, heating / cooling and plumbing systems – all necessary ingredients in operating a public venue. Given the demand for these components in the regional housing and commercial sectors, we do not anticipate being able to open again until Spring 2013," explained the venue's management on its Facebook page.

The venue further emphasized it's plans to return in a response to a Facebook post. We're not going anywhere! In fact, we're staying right where we are, and strengthening. You think we were legit before? Just wait," posted the club. They also hinted at a "holiday gift" to celebrate its reopening in the spring.

The Raritan River had flooded out Jernee Mill Road, the isolated street that leads to Starland Ballroom according to the Star Ledger.

Fans holding tickets to upcoming shows can turn them in for a refund at the point of purchase. The Taking Back Sunday Sandy relief concert has been moved to the Pine Belt Arena in Toms River while the Sum 41 concert scheduled for November 24 will take place at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park on November 25.
