Officer Fritz now holds the imprimatur as League Cycling Instructor (LCI) of the League of American Bicyclists. He co-founded the departments Bike Patrol Unit 16 years ago.

He completed the 135-year-old organization's training on teaching cycling safety through traffic, on trails and in groups.

LCI certification is earned by completing three intense days of lessons, workshops and tests. Officer Fritz says he'll bring his training to bear on the department's bicycle safety programs. They include the recurring Bicycle Rodeos for students, and the annual summertime Bicycle Safety and Fitness Camps for grades 4 through 9.

Additionally, he says, he'll be able to train and certify patrol officers, traffic officers and bike patrollers on the force.
