Stafford Crash Probe Under Way, Police Seek Witnesses

A midmorning crash in Manahawkin that sent a Barnegat man to a trauma center remains under investigation this afternoon. Stafford Township police seek witnesses to help reassemble the events leading to it.

Robert Gomez, 49, was behind the wheel of a 2008 Nissan Titan pickup that veered out of control and into a utility pole on Route 72 near Lighthouse Drive, police said. The report reached police at 8:47 AM.

Gomez suffered numerous injuries and needed extrication from the wreck by Stafford firefighters. After examination at Southern Ocean Medical Center, he was flown to Atlanticare Trauma Center in Atlantic City. Gomez is listed in stable condition, police said.
