It felt like old times for many in a Jersey shore town that was hit hard by Superstorm Sandy.

Belmar held its 40th annual St. Patrick's Day parade on Sunday.

Parade chairman Chip Cavanagh tells the Asbury Park Press an estimated 40,000 people attended the event. Cavanagh says it wasn't the biggest turnout, but it was a "decent turnout."

Police Chief Thomas Palmisano, however, told the Patch of Belmar that 100,000 watched the parade.

More than 5,000 people marched in the parade, including bands and emergency responders.

Belmar is rebuilding its boardwalk, which was destroyed by Sandy. Officials expect the oceanfront will be ready for the summer tourism season.
