Spodofora Will Not Seek Re-Election

Embattled Stafford Mayor John Stafford will not seek re-election.

The Stafford Township Republican Club says Spodofora, who admitted lying about his military record in Vietnam this week, informed the screening committee on Thursday he would not seek the club's endorsement for the November election according to the Asbury Park Press.

Candidates request an interview with the club's screening committee in accordance with their by-laws in an effort to earn their endorsement to run for office.

The club will likely suspend its rules at Monday's meeting and allow anyone to come forward as a candidate for Mayor. April 2 is the deadline for candidates to file petitions to run in the June 5 primary election.
