Special Needs Center Threat Suspect Arrested
A Brick Township man is accused of phoning in a threat to ARC of Ocean County in Lakewood this morning, forcing evacuation of everyone in the buidling.
Ryan Turek, 35, is a participant in the ARC program, according to Lakewood PD Sergeant Greg Staffordsmith. He faces a third-degree charge of creating a false public alarm.
Police say a worker at the North Oberlin Avenue special-needs center found the threat in voicemail, indicating that the building had a bomb planted in it.
The center, and the surrounding area including a girls' school with 200 students, were evacuated a little after 9:00 AM.
A search turned up no evidence to substantiate the call, and the evacuees returned a short while later.
