Township Officers Thomas Rant, Kevin Donohoe, and Phil Jackson, and Sergeant Paul Flammia, helped deliver the newborn Tuesday afternoon in a dwelling on West Park Avenue, authorities said, with a valuable assist from the Oakhurst First Aid squad.

Rant responded to the call about a pregnant woman in labor at about 3:26 PM. When he arrived, he found the mom-to-be already well into labor, with contractions arriving about a minute apart. Rant leaped into action, summoned help, and got all the assistance they needed.

Mom and baby were brought to Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. Police did not disclose the mother's identity.
