Some Settlements Reached In Seastreak Crash
Several settlements have been reached in lawsuits stemming from last January's crash of a Wall Street-bound commuter ferry.
More than three dozen people have sued the boat's owner.
The Seastreak Wall Street departed from Atlantic Highlands with 326 passengers and five crew members. It crashed into a pier in lower Manhattan, injuring more than 80 people.
Four settlements were filed in federal court in Newark this week. They range from $20,000 for a passenger who suffered a contusion and knee trauma to $80,000 for another passenger who had torn shoulder cartilage.
Attorneys for the plaintiffs and the boat's owner didn't return messages seeking comment Wednesday.
An investigation is ongoing. The ferry captain has told federal investigators he couldn't control the boat's engines in the seconds before the crash.
