Some of the young entrepreneurs discussed their venture on News Talk 1160 & 1310 WOBM-AM, making them the youngest business leaders to appear on "Townsquare Tonight" with host Tom Mongelli.

"Our teacher inspired us to do this because she loves animals so much, and we love animals so much," said one of the students about how they came up with the idea for "Wish Beyond the Wiskers."

Donated items and collectibles from stores, professional sports teams and other sources are sold and raffled off from the classroom, during designated hours, with students running all aspects of "Wish Beyond the Wiskers," from book keeping to scheduling.

So who are their customers? "All of Keansburg, and other classes and parents," they said.

Students only take breaks during recess and lunch. Even though they're working, they're learning math and writing skills, and tools that will apply in the real world. Students said they're required to write resumes and apply for positions that they are interested in, including cashier, personal shopper, and head security guard, to name a few.

"I made the schedule for everyday for every security guard to work at the raffle," said one boy. A girl added, "Yeah, and then we all get together at the end and count the money."

"Wish Beyond Wiskers" has raised $2,030.00 over the past two years. Proceeds are equally divided and then given to the two organizations for K-9 bullet proof vests and pet supplies for animals waiting to go to forever homes.
