Our early summer heat wave is breaking with some heavy thunderstorms moving thourgh the Shore and sharp drops in temperature.

The National Weather Service has issued a number of watches and warnings including a Flash Flood Warning, a Severe Thunderstrorm Warning for heavy rain, wind and possible hail.

The Stafford Township area was especially hard hit with several inches of heavy rain and hail falling in short period of time. Route 72 has been moving very slowly.

The sudden storm wreaks havoc in Barnegat, where police responded to 30 calls in two hours...including six lightning strikes, six downed trees...two atop unoccupied cars...five blocked streets, five fire alarm activations and two each of smoke odors and downed light poles. Police say there was electrical and water damage and power surges but no fires or injuries.

Toms River and Manahawkin are hard hit by power outages with several thousand JCP+L and Atlantic City Electric customers without power.
