One of the most special and memorable moments in a couple's life is the proposal. These days, there are of course different kinds of relationships - opposite sex and same sex. So we'll focus on opposite gender relationships for these purposes. Do you think, even today, that the man should be the one to propose?

Obviously, the traditional proposal has the man getting down on one knee, presenting his beloved with a ring, and asking the age old question.

While people certainly get creative these days, we mostly see the same end result - the man proposing to the woman.

But does it have to be that way?

Should it just be up to whoever gets the inspiration first?

But if the woman proposes to the man, does she present him with an engagement ring? Do they both get a ring? If the woman proposes to the man, is the man then obligated to get the woman a ring after the fact?

It seems like a simple topic, but there are actually a lot of variables that go into it.
