Shore Homeless to be Counted January 29
On January 29, people in Monmouth County with nowhere to call home, or on the verge, can get supplies and learn about services they can use while helping ensure that the county gets more funding to keep a safety net under them.
Project Homeless Connect gathers information about local homlessness in support of the nationwide Point In Time survey through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The biannual survey requires homelessness victims to visit specific sites.
In return, they receive food, clothes and information about programs available through Monmouth's Health and Human Services departments and not-for-profit groups.
This year, officials will set up at the Jersey Shore Rescue Mission in Asbury Park, 9 AM until 2 PM; New Beginnings Agape Christian Center in Freehold, 8 AM until 1 PM; and Pilgrim Baptist Church in Red Bank, 9 AM until 2 PM.
Point In Time is described as a "snapshot" of homelessness in America.
