Shawn Remembers: Opening Hurricane Harbor [50 Memories in 50 Days]
In 1974 I remember as a kid the grand opening of Six Flags Great Adventure and how much we loved days at the park in Jackson. Later as an adult, I remember nearly 20 years ago when Lisa Leonard (my then co-host) and I opened Six Flags Hurricane Harbor New Jersey! Can you believe it's been nearly two decades since the water park opened?
It was May of 2000 and Lisa and I did the morning show LIVE at the water park. It was a fun day as listeners were treated to the first look at this new extension of Great Adventure. We even did some broadcasting LIVE as we made our way down the lazy river! We had tropical drinks and food and gave away a ton of prizes and WOBM was there to cut the ribbon and nearly twenty years later residents still flock to Hurricane Harbor for cool summer fun! We even had the "Palm Tree Mobile" that carted us around the park all morning. Lisa and I hosted a lot of events together, but this was a really fun time and was a special part of Six Flags history.
Do you remember when Hurricane Harbor opened? What's YOUR favorite thing to do at Hurricane Harbor?
