I know others have seen plenty of Bald Eagles here at the Jersey Shore, but I have not encountered any here at home. That ended over the weekend!

I had received a tip from folks here in Ocean County and I decided to stake out the site of the alleged eagle sightings. Needless to say, I spent a few days watching with no sign of the elusive raptor.

Sunday I to run a few errands and I decided why not grab the camera and make a quick stop at the area the eagles had been reported and take a peek. Again no eagles, but I did see a Great Blue Heron who was relaxing fairly close to my SUV so I grabbed his photo and then as I prepared to leave I saw these huge wings and then right in front of me the Great Bald Eagle landed and I grabbed my camera and began snapping away! It was like he decided to pose and say "here pal get your photos and move on".

I still can't believe how close I was able to get and some beautiful photos of our National Bird and Symbol for the United States. Eagles had fallen into bad times, but through environmental and wildlife management efforts the eagle population has made a comeback and we are so glad they have! Truly a beautiful bird and hope you enjoy some of my sights, a "bucket list" bird for me for sure.
