The next generation of leaders who matriculate through the U.S. Service Academies is about to form. High schoolers or collegians interested in competing for nominations can learn what it takes, April 21 at the Wall Township Municipal Building.

Representative Chris Smith (R-4) conducts a Service Academy Information Night, starting at 5:30 PM.

Information will be available regarding the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD; The U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, CO; the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY; and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, CT.

Degrees from the academies are free of charge, provided that the young men and women who receive them fulfill the accompanying active-service obligations.

Congressional members, U.S. Senators, the Vice-President and President nominate candidates. Legal U.S. citizens, age 17 to 22 (17 to 25 for Merchant Marine Academy), single, with no dependents, are eligible.The Coast Guard Academy does not require a Congressional nomination.

The event is open to families who live in Smith's Fourth Congressional District, which includes:

Ocean County - Bay Head, Jackson, Lakewood, Lakehurst, Manchester, Point Pleasant Beach, portions of Point Pleasant Borough and Plumsted, and;

Monmouth County - Allentown, Avon-By-The-Sea, Belmar, Bradley Beach, Brielle, Colts Neck, Eatontown, Englishtown, Fair Haven, Farmingdale, Freehold Borough, Freehold Township, Holmdel, Howell, Lake Como, Little Silver, Manalapan, Manasquan, portions of Middletown, Millstone, Neptune City, Neptune Township, Ocean Township, Red Bank, Roosevelt, Rumson, Sea Girt, Shrewsbury, Shrewsbury Township, Spring Lake, Spring Lake Heights, Tinton Falls, Upper Freehold and Wall.
