Semi Wreck Knocks Out Power in Toms River
Homeowners in a section of Toms River with numerous residential enclaves went without electricity for much of the morning after a tractor-trailer that took town utility wires at the tail end of rush hour.
Church Road was closed for the better part of four hours between North Bay Avenue and Silverton Road.
According to township police, the rig was turning left into the township's record storage unit, still under construction, at about 8:24 AM.
The top of the box snagged two low-hanging service wires and compromised two poles in the process.
The township public works complex functioned with portable generators. The road was reopened just before 12 Noon, but pole repairs wore on into midafternoon..
