Ocean County Parks and Recreation will be giving women the opportunity to learn self- defense classes coming up in March and April.

According to the patch.com classes start in March - March 16, 23, 30 and April 4 from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Program Room at the Ocean County Parks Administration Building, 1198 Brandon Road, Toms River.

"Knowing the basics of self-defense helps us increase our levels of awareness so we are more in tune with our surroundings and any potential danger," said Virginia Haines, Ocean County Freeholder Director and the liaison to the Parks and Recreation Department. "This is an excellent chance to learn the basics on how to defend yourself."

Ocean County Park and Recreation reminds you to wear comfortable clothing. Registration is $5 per person and $20 per session.

These classes are for teens and women 16 years old or older.
