The nation continues to mourn the tragic shooting that took the lives of 49 innocent club goers at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, FL earlier this month. Tomorrow night a candlelight vigil will take place on the "J" Street Beach in Seaside Park as our community comes together to reflect on the tragedy, and to remember the lives lost on June 12 in Orlando.

The ceremony begins at 7:30 pm on Monday (June 27, 2016), according to Facebook posts. The event, which is sponsored by the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, will serve as a memorial gathering to reflect on the tragedy that took place in Orlando. It will also offer an opportunity to remember the lives that were lost at the Pulse night club. Directions to the J Street Beach can be found here.

This attack was personal for so many of us. I don't have anything profound to say two full weeks after the heinous attack in Orlando, but I know the feelings of anger, sadness and fear are still so raw for me. And I know those emotions are still so raw for so many others too. Our own Justin Louis wrote very poignant words about this a few days ago as well.

So it's important that we come together to heal, reflect and comfort. I will definitely be trying to clear my schedule tomorrow to attend this important event. The ocean and beach brings peace for so many of us who live at the shore, so I hope that the backdrop of the ocean tomorrow night will bring a feeling of peace and comfort to those in attendance.

I was able to attend the vigil hosted by the Greater Atlantic City GLBT Alliance on the beach in Atlantic City last Monday, and I have to admit there was something very touching about gathering at the beach to reflect and remember the innocent lives lost on June 12 in Orlando. Video from that service is posted below:
