A Class II special police officer on the Seaside Park squad is free on $100,000 bail, but could spend up to 10 years in prison of convicted of having sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl in his Hazlet home.

Daniel J. Alfano, 25, is faces a second-degree count of sexual assault and two third-degree counts of endangering the welfare of a child, according to information from the office of acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Chris Grammiccioni.

Alfano's Wednesday arrest followed a probe by Hazlet police regarding a sexual escapade that allegedly took place May 2. A conviction on the second-degree charge would also invoke provisionsof Megan's Law and subject him to lifetime community supervision.

According to Seaside Park PD Corporal Steve Shadiack, Chief Francis Larkin ordered Alfano removed from the duty roster upon learning of the investigation, and began termination procedures Wednesday. The department's internal affairs branch is following up, Shadiack said.
