The Asbury Park Press reports Funtown Pier Associates estimate the construction will take about 30 days and could potentially be completed by Memorial Day. Project Manager DJ D'Onofrio told the newspaper that if the deadline proves to be too optimistic, the boardwalk would definitely be ready by July Fourth.

A wind-swept inferno on September 12 destroyed several blocks of boardwalk and dozens of businesses. Another section of the boardwalk, under different ownership, currently is under construction.

Funtown Associates told the Planning Board the plans accepted are fluid and could be amended, according to the Asbury Park Press. The approval allows the owners to work out the logistics.

The plans approved Tuesday night included public restrooms, kiosks and benches, but no space for businesses.

The Asbury Park Press reports the negotiations are continuing.
