With just under two weeks until the October 16 election the former vice presidential candidate has come out in favor of the former Bogota mayor as she compares Lonegan's accomplishments while in office with those of opponent and current Newark mayor, Cory Booker (D)

"During one mayor’s tenure his town’s unemployment nearly doubled, taxes skyrocketed, and violent crime increased; but in fairness, Newark Mayor Cory Booker may not have noticed these facts between his constant tweeting and trips to Hollywood," said Palin in a statement.

Palin says Lonegan leads with "conservative principles" and understands "government is too often the problem, not the solution."

The Republican will not visit New Jersey at all. Although critical of Booker's heavy use of Twitter, Palin will use social media to support Lonegan.

"She's doing a big push for me through Facebook and Twitter," Lonegan told the Star Ledger. "It helps to ignite even more money coming in (to the campaign). It will help galvanize more attention to this national race."

Lonegan in a statement says, “Gov. Palin has been more than a voice for traditional American values, she has been a leader in helping conservatives stand up for their ideas and win elections. Her endorsement is further proof that the Republican Party will always come together to stand for principled conservatives."

Lonegan has received the support of Senator Rand Paul and Texas Governor Rick Perry who both attended campaign events in New Jersey.

Booker's campaign, which has seen his lead in the polls shrink in recent weeks, told the Star Ledger that Palin's endorsement proves that Lonegan is "out of touch" he is with New Jersey voters.   "Like Mr. Lonegan, she wants to ban abortions, even in cases of rape and incest, doesn't believe in climate change and opposes common sense measures to make our streets safer, like expanded background checks for gun purchases."

Booker received an endorsement of his own from former Newark Mayor Sharpe James. “He’d be a great U.S. senator for New Jersey,” said Sharpe according to PolitickerNJ.  “What other senator do you know who sits on Oprah’s couch, and then goes on Jimmy Fallon, and then Conan?”

He also labeled the late Frank Lautenberg a "legend. A man without a political agenda."
