According to NJ.com, Carroo's attorney Peter Gilbreth "entered the not-guilty plea by fax, waiving the first court appearance, according to records in Piscataway municipal court."

The 6-foot-1, 215 pound football player from Edison is accused of picking up a woman he was romantically involved with "and slamming her down on a concrete surface, injuring her left hip, both palms, left elbow and left side of the head,” according to a complaint filed with Piscataway Municipal Court saying. University police charged Carroo with simple assault. He was released on $1,000 bail.

Carroo is due in municipal court on Oct. 1. He was suspended from the team by head coach Kyle Flood and is not expected to play in Rutgers’ Big 10 matchup with Penn State on Saturday. On Wednesday, university president Robert Barchi announced that Flood has been suspended and fined for violating school policy by contacting a faculty member about the academic status of a player.
