Rutgers student robbed on campus by man with a ‘sharp object’

A Rutgers University student was robbed late Saturday night, the second violent crime on campus in two nights.

Rutgers Police Dept. Chief Kenneth Cop in a statement said the student was robbed on the New Brunswick school's College Avenue campus on George Street between Huntington Street and Bishop Place around midnight by a man with a "sharp object" who demanded whatever was in the student's  wallet.

The suspect, described as a while male age 22-23 with blonde hair, approximately 6’2” tall, wearing a collared grey sweater and black pants, ran off after the incident. The student, whose gender and name has not been revealed by Rutgers Police, was unharmed.

Students and staff were notified via text, email and Nixle alert of the incident.

Rutgers student Daniel Leandry, 18, of Garfield is charged with stabbing two people, one of whom is a Rutgers student in a dorm room inside Mettler Hall on Friday night.

Rutgers Police suggest students walk in groups, especially at night, remain alert and aware of their surroundings, secure points of entry to buildings and work spaces and report any suspicious activity to police.
