The embattled president will hold a town hall meeting at the school's Newark campus Monday.

Christie on Monday will face reporters for the first time since a video surfaced showing coach Mike Rice throwing basketballs at players and berating them with gay slurs. He has an event in his outer office to Governor's Outer Office late this morning.

Christie was on vacation last week when Rice was fired and athletic director Tim Pernetti resigned over his failure to fire Rice in December after reviewing the video.

Barchi will face some students and faculty who say they lost confidence in him even before the controversy over the firing of men's basketball coach Mike Rice last week.

They say a plan to re-organize the state's higher education system shortchanges the Rutgers campuses in Camden and Newark.

There is a proposal for the Camden and Newark law schools to merge. The plan will merge Rutgers with the state's University of Medicine and Dentistry. It's expected to cost up to $75 million.

Some faculty members say research money and resources will be funneled to the campus in New Brunswick.
