Fifty children and operators of the Smarty Pants Day Care center in Brick Township were evacuated safely this morning, but they won't be meeting there again until waterlogged electrical fixtures in the ceiling are repaired.

A leak seeping through the roof of Top Tomato Square on Brick Boulevard also impacted Party Fair, according to information from township police. Both sites are temporarily shuttered.

First-responders from the Breton Woods and Pioneer Hose fire companies arrived at about 8:45 AM today, on a report of a hazardous condition.

Police say the sites can reopen once electricians have determined the extent of damage and completed repairs, and when the roof is sealed.

Police say that both businesses sustained "extensive" damage, including ceiling tiles as well as fixtures. Both can reopen once the roof is secured, electrical repairs are completed, and the building is deemed safe, authorities said.
