Lavallette Founders Day, Island Beach State Park Beach's Plum Festival, and the Townsquare Media Insane Inflatable 5K Run in Seaside Park are all scheduled for the weekend as the "second season" gets underway along the Jersey Shore.

After being suspended for the summer, work restarted this past week on the reconstruction of Route 35 that was heavily damaged by Superstorm Sandy in 2012. The New Jersey Department of Transportation reminds drivers that sections of Route 35 through Mantoloking will have only one lane available with alternating traffic while one lane is closed in each direction from Curtis Point Drive at the border of Brick and Mantoloking through Ortley Avenue in Lavallette.

Police wlll monitor traffic levels and adjust traffic signals to accommodate high volume of traffic.

Drivers crossing over to Seaside Heights on Route 37 will find the regular number of lanes available on Route 35 between Island Beach State Park and Seaside Heights.

The Polar Bear Plunge last February caught police and officials off guard when thousands who came to the charity event in Seaside Heights caused hours of gridlock trying to leave the event.

The resumption of work on Route 35 has already been problematic for year-round residents who tell News 12 New Jersey work beginning at 6 a.m. has bounced them out of bed and created loud noise. The NJ DOT says they are trying to take advantage of the nice weather to work as much as possible before winter weather arrives.
