Road Crew Worker Injured During Paving Project
A road construction worker was hospitalized early this morning after his leg was pinned by a piece of equipment during paving work in Toms River.
27-year-old Ben Lugo was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center while working on Massachusetts Avenue when he got trapped underneath an asphalt hopper as he was cleaning the hopper according to the Ocean Signal. His feet became trapped under a belt and metal.
A torch and pry bar were used to free Lugo; Jerry Bove, 22 of Brick is credited with freeing his co-worker.
Police Chief Mike Mastronardy says the victim suffered burns and lacerations to his leg. He was flown to Jersey Shore Medical Center.
