Rihanna was presented with the 2013 American Music Awards Icon Award (Nov. 24) for all that she has achieved in her career so far. She's only 25, but she's Rihanna aka a global superstar and icon!

But rather than come out and make a speech, after being introduced by funny man and TV host Bill Maher, she performed her No. 1 hit 'Diamonds,' so yes, RiRi was shinning bright like a diamond.

The singer was also fully covered up in a slinky, satiny black dress with a low cut V in the front, which showed off sideboob. But for the most part, RiRi was classic and classy, with her thick, multi-strand pearl choker necklace. She looked like Josephine Baker and was a stunning beauty.

We were thrilled that the performance was about her music, not how much skin she chose to flash on the stage. She saves that for Instagram! She was backed by string players, making the performance that much more epic.

RiRi's crystalline voice sounded terrific, and the first person the camera panned to post-performance was her BFF Katy Perry, who wore an ear-to-ear grin, looking proud of her girl!

After her performance, Jay Z presented RiRi with the award via a pre-filmed video. Then Ri's mother Monica Fenty came to the stage with the actual trophy and presented it to her daughter directly.

Ma Fenty started her speech by thanking God and Jesus, and applauded her daughter for being strong, positive, humble and focused. RiRi admitted that speeches are not her thing, but it was sincere when she recalled how she started back in Barbados and met with Hova.

She also thanked "my glam team making me look cute all the time. My fans, you keep me driven and you keep this thing special."

It was't eloquent but it was from the heart.

Congrats, RiRi!
