BARNEGAT - A garbage can exploded in Ocean County early Thursday morning.

ABC 7 Eyewitness News reported the explosion happened around 1:30 a.m. in a trash can outside a home on Village Drive in Barnegat, a development not far from Route 9.

The home is not far from the Lillian Dunfee Elementary School on Barnegat Boulevard.

Ocean County Sheriff Mike Mastrondardy referred calls to the Ocean County Proseucutor's Office.

A trash can in Seaside Park that exploded on Sept. 17 was the first of a series of explosions in New Jersey and New York connected to Ahmed Rahami.
