Although we will likely salvage decent weather for Friday and Saturday, heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely for part of Sunday.

Here are your weather headlines for Friday, June 19, 2015...

Fairly Quiet For Now

Yesterday was cloudy and cool. This morning, a few bands of light to moderate rain passed through New Jersey. By Friday afternoon, skies should clear to partly sunny - yes, the sun will shine again today!

Overall, I think both today and tomorrow will turn into decent weather days. Although an abundance of moisture in the air (read: humidity) means we have to keep the potential for unsettled weather in the forecast. Spot showers or light thunderstorms will be possible for both Friday and Saturday, although raindrops should be the exception rather than the rule.

Meanwhile, temperatures will be on the warm side today, peaking in the mid to upper 80s... I wouldn't be surprised to see a 90+ degree reading in South Jersey today. As a weak cold front delivers slightly cooler and drier air for Saturday, temperatures will be limited to the upper 70s to about 80 degrees.

The Remnants of Bill

Tropical Depression Bill has already brought some very heavy rain to Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri. And Bill is headed our way, scheduled to arrive in New Jersey by the early morning hours on Father's Day Sunday. I was pleased to see the models are now in fairly good agreement about the timing of this deep pool of moisture, so confidence grows in this wet forecast.

Sometime in the neighborhood of 2 a.m. through 2 p.m. on Sunday, we're expecting some very heavy rain and potentially strong thunderstorms. Remember my advice from yesterday: never underestimate the wetness and power of a tropical system. I think widespread 1+ inch rain totals will be possible early Sunday, with some rainfall totals possibly bumping to the 3+ inch range in the heaviest rain bands.

I hesitate to call Sunday a "washout" though, as I really think we're going to see some clearing by the late afternoon. Those who have the patience to wait out the rain will also find warm and humid conditions for the first afternoon of summer on Sunday, as highs climb into the 80s after the rain is done.

Summer Heat

It looks like we'll head back to work with some downright hot temperatures for Monday and Tuesday. Widespread ~90° will be possible, with mostly to partly sunny skies and relatively low rain chances.
