Clearly the worst of winter is over and more than ever some of you might be questioning why you live here, especially if you could be in Florida or some other warm-weather location.  So if you decide to sit down and make a list of pros and cons as to winter at the Jersey Shore let me help you a bit with my top ten list of why it’s better to be here than there, wherever there is:

  1. It’s acceptable to walk around in that Snuggy you got for Christmas from a relative who doesn’t like you all that much.  The exception to that rule is that camouflage snuggy which honestly should not be worn by anyone living in New Jersey.
  2. You don’t have to worry about stepping in puddles because any standing water is frozen.
  3. You will have no trouble finding a parking spot at the beach.
  4. You don’t have to worry about insects. They’re all dead.
  5. You also don’t have to worry about sunburn.
  6. You can wear an ugly wool hat or even a Ushanka and get away with it.For those who don’t know a Ushanka is that traditional Russian fur hat with the big ear flaps.  Honestly if it was 50 below zero I wouldn’t get caught dead in one.
  7. OK so your car is very cold when you first get it…unless of course you have a remote starter.  But that’s better than feeling like you’re boiling after it was sitting in the sun all day.
  8. No deodorant, no problem for most.  You can’t sweat anyway when it’s below freezing every day.
  9. It’s easier to cover the weight you gained.
  10. When you tell your significant other that it’s important to stay close to one another in bed you have a better shot of that going somewhere when it’s really cold outside.  Just being honest here.

I hope this list helps you in your planning for next winter and please feel free to invite me down south for a week or two.
