Ready For The Weekend

A little of this and a little of that heading into the weekend

I’m not real happy about this weather pattern in which the last couple of weekends have not been great because it’s my only time to get to the beach. Looks like another mixed bag this weekend with Sunday better than Saturday. There’s only 7 weekends left until Labor Day and it seems that once we get to August the days just fly by.

The Beachwood Municipal Alliance will hold their annual Luau tomorrow night beginning at 6pm at Beachwood Beach. The family-themed event will feature hula dancers, a fire dancer, DJ, face painting, spin art, carnival games and food vendors. For $5.00 you can enjoy unlimited inflatable rides. The Luau runs from 6-10pm and people are encouraged to bring chairs, relax and enjoy the evening. For more information you can call (732) 608-9909.

The good times continued Thursday for Cincinnati Reds rookie Todd Frazier of Toms River. His RBI single in the bottom of the 7th snapped a 6-6 tie and gave the Reds a come-from-behind 7-6 victory over Arizona. Frazier is now batting .278 for the season with 10 homers and 31 RBI’s and playing on a regular basis. The 26-year old former Toms River South and Rutgers star is expected to be a major contributor the rest of the way for the Reds, who lead Pittsburgh by a half-game in the National League Central Division.

Seaside Heights lost a longtime and beloved resident this week when Thomas Reutter died at the age of 96. Tom spent more than 7 decades in the borough and during that time was co-owner of the Heights Food Market and later worked for the Public Works Department. A councilman for 27 years and deacon in his church his longest commitment was to the Seaside Heights Volunteer Fire Company where he spent 73 years. Services will be held Monday at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home on Main Street in Toms River.
