The man that you are looking at is a true hero.

Carlos Arredondo was at the Boston Marathon yesterday in memory of his son Alexander, a Marine who was killed in action in Iraq, as well as his other son, Brian, who took his own life after the loss of his brother.

Carlos Arredondo is clearly no stranger to tragedy.

But instead of running from the blast yesterday, he ran into the carnage to help.

In what is probably the most stark and shocking photograph from yesterday, Mr. Arredondo is shown rushing a young man in a wheelchair, who's legs had been blown off in the blast. The picture appears to show Mr. Arredondo holding one of the young man's exposed arteries shut with his bare hands.

The word "hero" gets thrown around a lot these days. Carlos Arredondo, a Costa Rican immigrant, is a true American hero.
