You won’t get much more of a weather change than we experienced this past weekend.

I drove through a torrential downpour on my way to Monmouth University Saturday morning. Yt was so bad that cars were doing 25 MPH on the Parkway in some spots.  Then when the sun came out later during the afternoon it was hot and humid followed by more showers in the evening.  Finally Sunday we woke up to crisp and clear weather which really felt good. It looks like that’s what we’ll have for the first full school week of the year.

There is nothing worse than leaving a movie confused about the ending but that’s how we felt after the credits started rolling for “The Words” which just came out this weekend.  The movie stars Bradley Cooper and we were really looking forward to it but in the end were disappointed and the ending is sort of left for the viewer to decide.  For $9.75 a ticket I want to know.

Toms River North had to wait a day to open the football season as their game with Howell was postponed Saturday night due to the predicted storms in the area.  The wait was well worth it, especially for sophomore quarterback Carmen Scalfani who made a smashing debut.  In his first varsity start Scalfani passed for 238 yards and two touchdowns as the Mariners topped visiting Howell 35-7.

About the only thing that did not work for the Jets Sunday was the much talked about “Wildcat” formation featuring Tim Tebow.  He was a non-factor but starting quarterback Mark Sanchez tossed three touchdown passes as the Jets set a franchise record for points in a season opener by blasting the visiting Buffalo Bills 48-28.
