LONG BRANCH — NJ Transit riders headed to the Jersey Shore will encounter delays on their ride.

Spokesman Jim Smith said a broken rail just south of the Long Branch station caused 30 minute delays between Long Branch and the end of the Jersey Shore Coast Line in Bay Head. It's not clear what the exact issue is with the rail but it could be related to the cold weather.

Smith did not know how long repairs would take and trains traveling both directions are sharing a single track.

Trains between Long Branch and Bay Head use diesel-powered engines and run on electric the rest of the way into New York.
