The application being considered by the Township Planning Board is from Kamson Corporation to build the Ocean Pointe complex on property surrounded by Route 88, Jack Martin Boulevard, and Burrsville Road. Testimony on the application is being carried over from the October 14 meeting.

The proposal includes an extended stay hotel with more than 200 rooms, a pair of strip malls with 66 second-floor apartments, and an additional retail space.

The Brick Patch reports opponents of the Ocean Pointe application turned out at Tuesday night's Brick Township Council meeting to give the governing body an earful. Many expressed fears about increased traffic and a potential rise in crime if the hotel becomes a haven for drug dealers.

Mayor John Ducey and the governing body were advised by Township Attorney Kevin Starkey not to take a stand on the application to avoid it being construed as an attempt to sway the Planning Board's decision, especially if the application is voted down, according to The Patch.
