Authorities are trying to determine what caused the car driven by Jackyara Tatis, 26, to veer off Route 18 just before daybreak Saturday. Police said that her car hit a bank of trees with enough impact to ricochet it back onto the highway, where it was hit by two pickup trucks.

Ms. Tatis was pronounced dead at the scene. Police responded to the crash site on the northbound side of the highway, near Texas Road, approaching Route 9, at about 5:24 AM.

Her 2013 Hyundai Elantra came to rest on the pavement and was hit by a 2016 Dodge pickup driven by Gazmend Blata of Freehold Township, and a 2002 Dodge pickup driven by Stanley Szewczyk of Brick Township. Police said neither driver sustained life-threatening injuries.

Police did not indicate whether speed, lighting or road conditions, visibility, or traffic volume contributed to the crash.

Anyone with information that can help the investigation is urged to e-mail Corporal Kenneth Marrone, or call him at 732-536-0304.
