Police Standoff in Toms River Ends Peacefully, Woman Charged
A Toms River woman undergoes observation and treatment after barricading herself in a house Monday and launching a nearly five-hour standoff with township police.
According to Toms River police, officers responded to the Rainbow Way dwelling at about 3 PM, on a report of a woman with suicidal tendencies.
Police say that, through the closed door, she told arriving officers that she had a rifle and would open fire if any of them approached. Officers watching the back of the house were able to confirm that Orderman was armed.
After setting up a perimeter and calling emergency medical units, a negotiator from the department opened dialogue that lasted until she emerged at about 7:30 PM.
Orderman faces a charge of weapons possession for an unlawful purpose.
