There was much more going on in a car zigzagging down a street in Monmouth's Ocean Township than police realized. A woman was giving birth in the back seat.

According to police, Captain Michael Resetar spotted the car moving erratically along Deal Road about 1:24 PM Wednesday and pulled it to the curb.

Discovering that the driver's wife had already entered labor, he signaled for emergency medical technicians. She began delivering while they were waiting, police said.

Moments later, with assistance by Oakhurst First Aider Judith Brown and Officers Christopher Brady, Alisa Martinez and John Hanna, a baby girl began her first day of life.

Mom and baby are said to be faring well at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. Police declined to identify the proud - and relieved - parents.
