Point Pleasant Boro Police make another Route 88 Bridge rescue

For the second time in less than a week Point Pleasant Borough police rescue a woman in distress by the Route 88 bridge.

The 38-year old Howell woman was attempting to jump off the bridge around 8:00 pm Monday when off-duty police officer Travis Popiel who spotted her while nearby, got out of his car and pulled her from the railing and to safety.

Last Friday, police rescued a woman who did jump into the point pleasant canal.

She recovered as well after being treated for hypothermia.

Both victims were transported to Ocean Medical Center in Brick Township for further evaluation.
