Christie posted a video titled "Governor Christie Saves School Children From Spider" on his official YouTube page showing him taking care of a wayward spider as members of his daughter Bridget's 4th grade class visited his office.

Ingrid Newkirk, president of People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals, described Christie's killing of the spider as a "thoughtless act" to the website TPM (Talking Points Memo).

"He probably did it without thinking. Some people put the spider outside, but spiders are often scary to people, and that can prevent them from pondering their worth," Newkirk wrote in a statement.

In the video, the children are distracted by a spider on a desk as the Governor is speaking. Christie comes over for a closer look, grabs a stapler and then smashes the spider with his hand as the kids clap. "That's another fun part of being governor. You see bugs on your desk you're allowed to kill them and I get in trouble."

The Governor also tweeted of the visit, 'My daughter Bridget’s 4th grade class visited the State House today. Hope I didn't embarrass her too much."
