About 720 pounds of raw, fresh chicken products distributed in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania are under recall because of questionable water temperatures during processing.

Perdue Food LLC of Salisbury, Maryland issued the recall for nine 80-pound cardboard boxes shipped under the label "Cookin' Good Whole Young Chickens," with giblets and necks. Each sealed box is marked with the identification "P-764" and contains about 28 two-and-a-half-pound birds packed in ice.

The poultry was produced on September 3 and nine cases were shipped to New York for distribution while the remainder was destroyed in the processing plant, according to information from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

A plant worker used potable water instead of chill water in the system's chiller, resulting in variations in temperatures in the finished products, officials said.

No reports of illnesses have reached the USDA's Food Safety Information Service (FSIS) as of this morning.
