And when it comes to Republicans, Pelosi says immigration reform is right for them, too, if they ever want to win a presidential race.

She points to overwhelming support President Barack Obama received from Hispanics in last year's presidential race.

The Democratic-controlled Senate approved a wide-ranging immigration bill last week. It's expected to face tough opposition in the Republican-controlled House.

In an interview airing Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press," Pelosi says senators know it's important to have Hispanics and other immigrant populations support them. She says she hopes senators will be able to persuade House members to vote for the immigration bill.
