A source with knowledge of the investigation told WOBM News at the scene Tuesday night a pedestrian had been hit by a car traveling along Fischer Boulevard near St. Justin The Martyr Parish.

The pedestrian was taken from the scene to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation of undisclosed injuries but was alive following the accident Tuesday night.

The current condition this morning of the victim is unknown.

It's not yet known what side of the road the accident occurred although it seems likely it was on the side of the church which neighbors a funeral home and a plaza featuring Crunch Fitness.

The information was confirmed by Toms River Police spokesman Ralph Stocco last night to WOBM News.

Also yet to be released is the exact time the accident took place.

Traffic out of the church parking lot was detoured out of an alternate exit as parents brought their kids home from religious education class, a separate source tells the newsroom.

Religious education classes run from 4:30-5:45 at the church, so the accident may have occurred briefly before they were let out.

No other injuries were reported in the crash which included a couple people inside the car.

The investigation is still in the early stages and no potential charges have been reported.

The speed limit on Fischer Boulevard is 45-mph on most of the road but goes up to 50-mph about a quarter mile up the road from where the accident happened.

Toms River Police were joined on scene by the Ocean County Sheriff's Office and the Ocean County Prosecutors Office.
